This is the story of the golden years of Colombian football.
After beating Argentina 5-0, Colombia qualified for the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States as tournament favourites. The threats and pressure from the mafia, the Cali and Medellín cartels, led to total failure at that World Cup and the tragic murder of Andrés Escobar. Colombian soccer had to rebuild from the ashes to finally achieve the country's first and only international title, the 2001 Copa América.
