They're just kids from different backgrounds brought together by circumstances of fate. Through neglect, abandonment, indifference, and abuse they’ve turned into strays. They live by their wits and by their uncertain dreams on the streets of London. When 17-year old Vince flees from an abusive home to the streets, he quickly learns to survive, against all odds. He encounters a dark and treacherous world, where each day brings its new challenges. Not only will Vince simply have to survive in this new world, but he will also face the darker sides of himself, standing strong against the kind of temptations which promise to bury him alive.
Vince soon encounters a variety of characters, from Trevor with his circus dog to Sid the psychotic crack dealer. He falls in love with Lucy, a young prostitute who wants out of the game and finds a father figure and spiritual adviser in Luther, the librarian.
Eventually, Vince finds refuge in a place called the Station, a gigantic artificial city, inside Battersea Power Station. There, Boudica, an activist who guards the space with three ferocious dogs, holds court to dozens of homeless people, creating for them an idyllic environment where they can live in relative safety.
