September 2010 – Togo’s national soccer team travel 3,500 miles to play in an exhibition game against Bahrain.
When Bahrain lost 3-0, their coach raised his suspicions about the Togoan team who seemed incapable of lasting the 90 minutes.
It emerged that the match had been set up by Raj Perumal – who made a series of shocking claims. That he had been responsible for Nigeria’s qualification for the 2014 World Cup; had rigged South Africa’s friendlies before the 2010 World Cup; and was responsible for rigging hundreds of international games to make money from illegal betting schemes.
