It’s a tough and lonely job. Drivers are often away from their families for weeks at a time chasing big money contracts along some of the world’s longest roads. The drivers all have highly specialized road skills and tough-as-nails mechanical bush knowhow. With their monster trailers in tow, they battle the most unforgiving terrain and weather conditions imaginable - to deliver food, cattle and construction supplies to those who need it the most. And they have to do it before the wet season hits and the roads get shut down.
Aussie Road Train Truckers is shot during the dry season in Australia, when truckers are in a race against time to deliver their payloads before the wet season begins and the roads become impassable.
Episode 1
It’s the dry season in the Australian outback. It’s when the Aussie Road Train Truckers go as hard as they can to bank as much money as they can. Millions of dollars in trucking contracts are up for grabs. The roads in the Northern Territory are some of the longest on the planet. The chase is on to secure the biggest pay loads and the most lucrative freight routes all before the wet season hits and the roads get shutdown.
Episode 2
Jake’s travelling in convey with his truckie mate, Hollywood. They’re scheduled to deliver 12 decks of cattle worth $500,000 to a station in Alice Springs. Dave’s searching for a $75,000 Ute for backload haulage to Katherine but there are dramas. The owner of the Ute is missing, and Dave only has the most basic of equipment to get the vehicle loaded into his trailer. And long-haul driver Jorden has broken down on the side of a highway. He desperately needs help.
Episode 3
The town Jake’s travelling to is on fire. Will he try and navigate his way around the smoke and fire or head home and lose the massive payload? Scotty’s hauling $30,000 worth of feed-hay into the town of Katherine. The haystack is as high as single story building - and now there’s a major problem with his trailer. And Des is delivering $6,000 worth of crusher dust to a remote mine outside of Mt Isa. Des’s truck smashes the scales at 158 tonnes and the road ahead is dangerous and steep.
Episode 4
Scotty and Shaun travel in convey to deliver $400,000 worth of Brahman cattle to one of the most remote stations in the world. Glenn and Dave attempt a tag-team delivery of $24,000 worth of cement to Tennant Creek, but disaster lies ahead. Jake and Hollywood are knee-deep in critical truck repairs. And Brownie’s part of a multi-million-dollar mega-load, trying to beat the rain, but the road Brownie’s on is a total shocker. If he gets bogged, he’ll miss his mega pay check.
Episode 5
Scotty takes on a time-critical road job to help build-up a cattle station’s main supply route before incoming rain turns the road into impenetrable mud. Trouble is, Scotty’s down a man and has just made a fatal error. Glenn’s up against it after shredding an inside tyre on a dangerous section of bitumen in the middle of nowhere. And Jake’s racing 2,000 kilometres to hit a monster cattle-load deadline. Will he make it in time or lose the highly lucrative pay day?
Episode 6
Jake’s seven-truck mega convoy gets detailed by a high-drama outback medical emergency. Another road train trucker is injured and desperately needs help. Brownie is in dire straits after his trusty 509’s engine blows-up. He’s now staring down the barrel of a business-destroying repair bill and he’s been booked for a job that kicks-off in just 48-hours. Is Brownie all done for the season? And Scotty struggles to hit a 9pm cattle unload curfew.
Episode 7
Des and Jason are hauling 300 tonnes of gravel soaked in bitumen along the Flinders Highway in Queensland trying to overtake a caravan that just won’t budge. It’s a high stakes stand-off. The wet season rains have hit. And Brownie, a certified clean freak, is covered in slop struggling to load-up hundreds of dirty cattle onto his road train. His day is about to get very messy. And Jake is racing against a big storm. Trouble is, he’s hit a deep crack in a damaged section of dirt road.
Episode 8
It’s the end of the dry season. And the rain is closing in. Jake goes head-to-head with an angry Brahman. Des delivers a record-breaking load of 7 mill construction mix to a secret highly restricted multi-billion-dollar gold and copper mine. And Glen tackles the territory’s most dangerous dirt road with two worn out types. It’s 50:50 if he’ll make it.
